(Ames) Registration is now open for the 2014 Motorcycle Safety Forum.
The event is being held Friday, April 25, at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To register for the event, log on to www.iowadot.gov/mvd/ods/motorcycle.
Over the past three years, an average of 43 motorcycles riders or passengers have been killed on Iowa highways. Toni Kerkove, Motorcycle Rider Administrator with the DOT, said all highway deaths are preventable and by encouraging safe riding through efforts such as the Motorcycle Safety Forum everyone can work together to reach the goal of zero fatalities.
“We want to make sure that people understand the importance of riding for themselves and for everyone else,” said Kerkove.
This one-day, interactive forum will feature several presentations, safety displays, an exhibitor tradeshow, and other motorcycle-related exhibits. Presenters include Reggie Showers, Stacey “Axe” Axemaker, Laura and Kenny Wulf, and Slider Gilmore. There will be also be giveaways and a photo booth where participants can have their photo taken with a motorcycle inside the conference center.
Registration is $15 and includes a continental breakfast, lunch, breaks, and an opportunity to enter a drawing for an Aluma motorcycle trailer. Participants are asked to be prepared to share ideas and thoughts with forum committee members and other riders throughout the day.
