(Atlantic) Air molecules contracting in your car tires may have caused your low pressure light in your car to falsely come on during last week’s freezing weather.
John Dvorak, is the owner of Dvorak Tire and Service in Atlantic.
“Nitrogen is used in tires because there is no moisture in it,” stated Dvorak. “The moisture in tires is what causes it to bead leak.”
Dvorak says the down side is finding a place where nitrogen is readily available. And he says if you have one tire in your vehicle that is five pounds low on air, it will drop your gas mileage by 5-percent.
Semi trucks, race cars, and airplanes have used nitrogen in their tires for years, it is just now becoming more common with personal vehicles.
