(Elk Horn) A blood drive will be held at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church Tuesday in honor of 6th grader Noah Petersen.
April Oppliger, spokesperson for the American Red Cross Midwest Blood Services Region, said Noah, the son of Kevin and Carrie Petersen of Walnut, was diagnosed with botryoid rhabdomyosarcoma in September 2011. During subsequent chemotherapy sessions, Noah received blood transfusions to help keep his hemoglobin levels stable.
“His mom recounts that it was a blessing for their family not to have to worry about making sure that the blood was there for Noah when he needed it,” said Oppliger. “When they were in the midst of all of their other health concerns, this was one release that they didn’t have to think about because of generous blood donors.”
The blood drive will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. To make an appointment, call Ann White at 712-764-5888. Walk-ins are also welcome.
