(Atlantic) Two people were hurt in a two-vehicle accident north of Atlantic Friday evening.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at around 7:50 p.m. at the Highway 71 and Interstate 80 interchange.
According to the report, 61-year-old Patrick Luft, of Altoona was northbound in a 2001 Ford pickup on Highway 71 and drove past the eastbound Interstate 80 on ramp. He stopped the truck and began backing up in the left lane of Highway 71 and turned right attempting to enter the eastbound on ramp in front of a semi driven by 42-year-old David Wiley of Emmetsburg. Luft’s pickup struck the semi causing both vehicles to enter the east ditch near the on ramp.
Patrick Luft was transported by Medivac ambulance to the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic. His passenger, 60-year-old Sandra Luft was taken by Medivac to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
