(Des Moines) Democrats say they will “try, try again” to raise Iowa’s minimum wage when the new session gets underway next week. House Minority Leader Mark Smith says it’s on their to-do list.
“As part of our agenda there will be a bill introduced in the House to increase the minimum wage,” said Smith.
But, House Speaker Kraig Paulsen says lawmakers need to weigh the effect a higher minimum wage would have on small or struggling businesses.
“It would make it harder to be an employer in the state of Iowa, that’s something we have to keep in the back of our mind,” stated Paulsen.
Having said that, the Hiawatha Republican says he voted for the last effort to hike the minimum wage.
