(Washington DC) It could be next month before congress considers increasing the minimum wage. Iowa Senator Tom Harkin is proposing $10.10 an hour. Republicans are generally opposed to an increase but Harkin says there should be a vote anyway.
"At least the American people will know whose side who is on in terms of trying to help people have better lives... I think all the polls show that public opinion is strongly behind raising the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour."
Harkin says he thinks Republicans will propose a small increase in the minimum wage to perhaps $9.00 an hour which he believes is inadequate because the worker would still be making a poverty wage.
