(Des Moines) They thought they’d get 12-thousand people signed up for health insurance by the first of this year, but instead the non-profit Co-Opportunity Health says they’ve had over 35-thousand people in Iowa and Nebraska that signed up for insurance on the federal healthcare.gov website. Co-Opportunity provides health insurance for both Iowa and Nebraska and CEO Dave Lyons says Nebraska makes up a majority of that 35-thousand.
“Roughly speaking, about two-thirds of our members are coming from individuals in small businesses in Nebraska, and about one-third in Iowa, although the Iowa portion is growing significantly,” explained Lyons.
Lyons says the problems with the healthcare.gov website did slow down signups, but they’re clearing up the backlog to ensure those who signed up are covered.
