(Greenfield) House District 20 Republican Representative Clel Baudler of Greenfield says the legislature will have to be very careful with their spending practices during the 2014 Iowa legislative session.
“Everybody says we have about $900 million excess,” stated Baudler. “But we really don’t.”
He says that is because of the money spent last year for education, property tax reform and the expected increase for Medicaid.
“Most of that money is already spent, not all of it, but most of it, and I think with the farm economy, it will be okay this year, but next year it will take a hit, so I think we must be very careful in our spending practices.”
Baudler also thinks Mental Health Funding will be a high priority item this session and whether or not to increase the gas tax.
Baudler now 75-years-old will be entering his 16th year as a State Representative. Baudlers’ constituency includes; all of Adair and Guthrie Counties, Anita and Wiota in Cass County, and Linden, Dawson and Perry in Dallas County.
Baudler serves on the Natural Resources, Ag, and Oversight committees He is also Chairman of the Public Safety committee.
