(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council laid the ground work for 2014 Wednesday night. During this year’s inaugural meeting the council welcomed two new council people, Lori Stuart and Bob Cord. The council also approved several routine items.
The council approved the First Whitney Bank and Trust as the City’s official bank for checking accounts, and approved the Atlantic News Telegraph as the City’s official newspaper. The Council reappointed Deb Wheatley Field as City Clerk and Dave Wiederstein as the City Attorney for two-year terms. Mayor Jones has also appointed Kathy Somers as Mayor Pro Tem. Somers will assume the duties of the Mayor in his absence. The City council also approved Mayor Dave Jones Committee and Liason Assignments for 2014.
In other business the Council accepted the work of KWS for the 7th Street traffic signalization project.
“This work was completed was done last summer and has everybody has noticed seventh Street and Olive has never worked any better,” stated Jones. “It works perfectly.”
The Council also approved the final pay application of $7,422.55. The final contract price including change orders was $141,566.35.
The City Council also approved an Engineering Agreement with Snyder and Associates for the mapping portion of the Airport Land Use and Height Overlay Ordinance for a lump sum of $2,300. The FAA requires that the airport Land and Use and Height Overlay Ordinance be updated in order for the city to be eligible for future federal funding of projects.
And the final item on the agenda was for the City Council to warrantee work with Hawkins Construction to correct the settling of the foundation of the blower building at the Waste Water Treatment Plant. The Council approved it by unanimous decision.
The next Atlantic City Council meeting is January 22.
