(State) An official with the Iowa American Lung Association urging lawmakers to pass more controls on “Electronic Cigarettes” next session. Program Director Megan Aucutt says a lot of people don’t know that kids of any age can legally buy so-called “E-Cigarettes” right now.
“And I think that’s one of the educational components that we are trying to get out in the messaging, that there is no law that you don’t have to be 18 like the normal cigarette to buy this. So it is all about education and the American Lung Association will be at the state house.”
Aucutt says the Lung Association doesn’t endorse using “E-Cigarettes” as a way to kick the smoking habit. She says there’s no research indicating it’s helpful, so, they’re sticking with recommending “The Patch” or “The Gum” for tobacco cessation.
