(Des Moines) The National Weather Service has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory for a handful of counties in the KSOM/KS95 listening area.
Forecasters say the Advisory goes into effect at 6:00 p.m. this evening until 6:00 a.m. Friday, for the area counties of Adair-Guthrie-Dallas-Madison-Adams-Union-Ringgold, and Taylor. The Advisory also includes areas northeast of a line extending from Taylor County to Adair, Guthrie and northeast through Ames, Cedar Falls and extreme northeast Iowa.
Drizzle is expected to develop this evening and persist at intervals overnight, concurrent with temperatures falling below freezing around and after sunset.
Total ice accumulations appear to be less than one tenth of an inch. The ice will primarily pose a hazard to travelers as roads, sidewalks, and other surfaces will become slick. Anyone planning to travel tonight should be very cautious and monitor road conditions closely.
A Freezing Rain Advisory means that periods of freezing rain or freezing drizzle will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving.
