(State) One of Iowa’s biggest gun rights advocates is telling Iowans not to believe the internet conspiracies about the government buying up ammunition to keep it out of the hands of gun users. Kayne Robinson’s the former Assistant Police Chief in Des Moines and is on the board of the National Rifle Association. He’s checked and the current shortage of ammunition isn’t because of any shutdown of metals plants or because of any government purchases. He says it’s because the Obama administration’s been talking about gun control and America gun owners have been responding.
“Most gun owners have scratched their heads a little bit saying ‘This guy wants to ban guns and ammo. I don’t know if he’s going to get it done or not, but maybe I ought to go out and buy a box.’ Well if you have 120 Million people buying a box of 22 long rifle ammunition, it causes a shortage in a hurry.”
Robinson told the Des Moines Conservative Breakfast this morning that he can’t find any facts to substantiate the internet rumors that say the U-S Department of Homeland Security’s buying up guns and ammo to keep them out of the hands of regular citizens. He says recent large orders by that department just reflect the fact that Homeland Security has been growing in size and scope…and with that its needs for weapons.
