(Des Moines) Members of Iowa’s Board of Regents are getting an update on population trends.
David Peters of I-S-U’s Sociology Department says the biggest percentage off future college students, headed to Iowa State, Iowa, and UNI, will be from the largest cities in Iowa. He says it’s interesting to note, where many of those students end up, after college graduation.
“We are keeping our high school age students to stay and attend in college or a university in Iowa and after that at about age 25 to their mid-40’s they leave the state,” stated Peters.
Peters also says the demographics suggest, the trend of cities gaining population, and rural areas losing is likely to continue.
Peters made those comments at an Iowa Board of Regents Committee meeting on Tuesday.
