(Montezuma) The search for a missing fisherman in Central Iowa has been suspended because of hazardous conditions.
Search and rescue personnel in Poweshiek County had been searching for a man since Saturday night who had fallen through the ice on Lake Ponderosa Saturday night. The Sheriff’s Department says the man was riding an all terrain vehicle on the ice when it gave way and he and the vehicle went into the icy water. The search lasted about seven hours until early Sunday morning when it was called off because equipment kept freezing up. It resumed Sunday but ended just after 6:00pm. Montezuma Fire Chief Chris Widmer says they suspended activities after determining the conditions were too dangerous for divers who were trying to work in 37 degree weather.
