(State) Traffic safety experts say 2013 has been better than most, in terms of the number of fatal traffic crashes. Pat Hoy of the Governor’s Traffic Safety Office reports,
“We are right at approximately 300 fatalities. That is down about 45 from where we were a year ago. This is looking to be one of those record setting low fatality years in Iowa.”
However, December can be a dangerous month on the roads, because of weather. He reminds drivers to sharpen their winter-driving skills.
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Office has just learned it’s receiving more than $995,000 in Federal Grants, for safety programs. Nearly half of the funding goes toward discouraging impaired driving.
