CAMPERS ARRIVE AT LAKE ANITA STATE THIS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
(Anita) One area Park Manager says campers arrived earlier than normal for the Memorial Day weekend. Josh Peach is the Park Manager at Lake Anita.
“Sunday evening, all of our full hook-up sites were full. By Monday evening all of our electric sites were taken already,” said Peach. “Typically every year for Memorial Day we’ll fill on Wednesday or Thursday, but this year is just extremely early. People are not necessarily fighting for sites, but they were really wanting them this year.”
Peach says the slow economy might have something to do with the demand for campsites.
“It seems like when the economy kind of slows down a little bit, especially when gas prices go up, people aren’t wanting to travel quite as far maybe and they’re looking for something closer to home and State Parks and camping is a very economical vacation or getaway for a family,” said Peach.
Campers are reminded of the new requirements on labeling of firewood. On January 1, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship began requiring all firewood sold or acquired in Iowa to have the county and state of harvest location on the label of the packages and the delivery ticket for bulk.
