(Des Moines) The Iowa State Patrol says the number of Iowa traffic fatalities this year stands at 280. The good news is that number is lower than a year ago.
Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Scott Bright said there have been 42 fewer fatalities so far in 2013. Bright cited several reasons for the drop including; increased enforcement, driver education, and improvements in vehicle safety features and designs.
Bright also said new safety features on Iowa’s Interstates, for example; barriers that keep vehicles from crossing into oncoming traffic are helping to save lives.
