ELLIOTT FIRE DEPARTMENT HOSTING GOLF TOURNAMENT
(Elliott) It takes a lot of money to maintain a fire department “big” or “small” and the mandatory training costs a lot of money. The Elliott Fire Department is holding a four-person 4-man best ball golf tournament June 10 to offset some of those costs.
“Little volunteer fire departments are held to the same standard as the Omaha Fire Department, the New York City Fire Department, any department that has training and training is very expensive,” said Travis.
Tournament Chair Andrew Travis, of the Elliott Fire Department says Fire Fighter 1 certified means every firefighter must have the NFDA minimum training before he or she is allowed to fight a fire.
“They take you through the basics; the correct way to put on your gear, the correct way to put your SCBA on, the correct way to go through homes, how you can get in and out of a building simply by following a hose line, by knowing your male and female, which one goes to the truck which one goes to the nozzle, to be able to navigate your way out of a home,” said Travis.
Travis said United Group Insurance has stepped up with a generous contribution. “I’d also like to say a special thank you to United Group Insurance, they not only put a team together but very generously donated $500 to the fire department for this event,” said Travis.
Andrew Travis says the tournament at the Griswold Golf and Country Club starts at 10:00 a.m. He says the cost is $100.00 per team and the deadline to signup is Wednesday, May 25. Anyone interested in forming a team can call Andrew Travis at(712) 789-9527
