IOWA DOT SENDS HELP TO LENOX
(AMES) A suspected tornado tore through the southwest Iowa town of Lenox yesterday afternoon. The community of about 1,400 people was pummeled by high winds and hail, with approximately 45 percent of the buildings suffering damage. Storm spotters also reported a tornado near Kent, a few miles northeast of Lenox; and twisters near Ashton, Sibley and Lyon in northwest Iowa.
A disaster declaration has been declared for Taylor County. Lenox is in Adams and Taylor counties.
The Iowa Department of Transportation is preparing to respond to a request from Lenox received through Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management to assist with debris removal. Resources to be deployed include trucks, front-end loaders and chippers.
