ELEVATED GRASSLAND FIRE DANGER
(DES MOINES) The National Weather Service says there is an elevated grassland fire danger for a portion of southwest Iowa this afternoon and early evening.
Atlantic Fire Chief Mark McNees says even though everything is starting to turn green, there is still some dryness and with the low humidity levels and heavy winds, this is conducive to fires.
“When they issue these that means conditions are very ripe for a fire to get out of control or to easily start so everybody should hold off on any burning that they’re thinking of doing and of course please do not discard cigarettes or any other materials that might start a fire,” explained McNees.
The elevated grassland fire danger includes Crawford, Carroll, Audubon, Guthrie, Dallas, Cass, Adair, Madison, Adams, Union, Taylor, and Ringgold counties.
