TWO ADAIR COUNTY COMMUNITIES REJECT SALES AND SERVICE TAX
( Greenfield ) Tuesday voters in Stuart and Casey decided to discontinue the one cent local option sales and service tax. Stuart voters turned down the measure 26-4, and in Casey. Adair County Auditor Mindy Schaefer says it will cost Casey $647.00 and Stuart $41,900.00.
“I imagine it will make quite an impact especially in the city of Stuart,” stated Schaefer. “The total amount that they received from the Guthrie and Adair County side makes up about a third of what they will no longer be receiving starting in July of 2012.”
Schaefer says officials in Stuart and Casey can repeat the election of they choose to.
According to the results, the following communities approved the local option sales and service tax including Adair, (28-4), Bridgewater (7-0), Fontanelle (35-10), Orient (7-1), and Greenfield (121-35).
The hotel/motel tax in Greenfield passed 121-34.
