COUNCIL BLUFFS FIRE VICTIM IDENTIFIED
(COUNCIL BLUFFS) The man who died in a house fire in Council Bluffs this morning has been identified.
Council Bluffs Police say 37-year-old Daniel Naylor was overcome by smoke and was transported to Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
At around 1:10 this morning the Council Bluffs Fire Department was called to the single story structure fire at 405 North 7th Street. Preliminary investigation found evidence of an accidental fire caused by household items and trash accumulated behind the refrigerator as the cause of the fire. Fire damage was limited to the kitchen area with heavy smoke damage throughout the rest of the residence. A dog was also found deceased in the residence.
No working smoke detectors were found in the home. An autopsy will be performed by the state Medical Examiner’s Office on Wednesday.
