(DES MOINES) A southwest Iowa soldier was wounded by enemy fire in Afghanistan over the weekend.
Col. Greg Hapgood with the Iowa National Guard says Specialist Dane Nelsen of Walnut was conducting a patrol on foot in Paktia Province, Afghanistan when his unit came under fire.
“Specialist Nelsen was wounded, he was evacuated and is receiving medical care,” said Hapgood. “We don’t have any additional information regarding his specific injuries or his condition at this time.”
Dane Nelsen’s mother, Robin Henningsen says, “On behalf of Dane’s family we just want to thank the community and the friend’s for all of their support now and during his deployment. We are proud of Dane’s service to our country as he is fighting for what he believes in and we just continue to pray for all of the soldiers and their families.”
