IOWA GUARDSMEN AIDE IN ARREST OF TOP AFGHAN MILITANT
(Des Moines) A Cass County Deputy Sheriff serving in Afghanistan is one of the Iowa Guardsmen credited with capturing a highly sought insurgent financier in Afghanistan’s Paktia Province.
According to the Des Moines Register, the arrest occurred April 17 near Gardez. The man, whose name was not released, was among four men in a car that was stopped during a sweep performed by members of the Guards 1-168th Battalion, the Afghan National Army and the local police.
Sgt. 1st Class Ryan Johnson, Cass County Deputy told the Des Moines Register that the financier was one of the legs of a table and if you start taking off the legs, the whole thing is going to collapse. He says the financier was one of those legs, and now the table is wobbling.
The operation also uncovered two homemade bombs.
