SPEND SMART. EAT SMART. WORKSHOP SET FOR APRIL 27
(Atlantic) A program to help shoppers put more food in their cart with less money is being offered by Cass County Extension. The free workshop on Spend-Smart-Eat Smart is this Wednesday April 27, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Bill Drey, Cass and Montgomery County Extension Program Coordinator, will teach participants that good nutrition does not have to be expensive. “What this program is designed to do is help you save money when you go grocery shopping and most of the time when you ask somebody if they’re spending more and more money on food and ending up with less and less, the answer is probably yes,” said Drey.
Drey says participants will learn strategies to save money on food expenses and incorporate new ideas in menu planning and food shopping.
“One thing I tell people to do is in most grocery stores you shop the perimeter and that’s where you find your healthy foods like meat, milk, eggs, fruits and vegetables, that type of stuff,” said Drey. “When you get into the center aisles, you’re basically looking at more of your junk food.”
Drey says it also makes a difference who is shopping with you. “Probably don’t take kids with you either, they have a tendency to make you buy stuff that you shouldn’t,” said Drey.
The workshop is free to the public, but you must preregister at by calling the Cass County Extension Office at (712)-243-1132end_of_the_skype_highlighting. There is a limit of 15 for the workshop.
