SOUTHWEST IOWA MEN GRADUATE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY ACADEMY
(JOHNSTON) Three southwest Iowa men were among 21 other men and women sworn in as peace officers with the Iowa Department of Public Safety at the 35th Academy Graduation ceremony on Thursday. They will serve their communities as Troopers with the Iowa State Patrol, and Special Agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
Garrett Clayton of Walnut has been assigned to District 16, Capitol Complex, and Cole Johannsen of Avoca and Matthew Ross of Glenwood were both assigned to Gaming Enforcement in Lyon County.
The officers completed a 22-week training academy designed to prepare them for readiness to serve as law enforcement officers. Elements of their training included the use of firearms, emergency response procedures, first aid and CPR, tactical driving techniques, and courses on Iowa law. The begin active service in their new assignments effective immediately.
