SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK – CASS COUNTY
(ATLANTIC) Next week is severe weather awareness week in Iowa.
Cass County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Kennon says schools, businesses, local governments and individuals are encouraged to participate in the drill. He told the Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning that the statewide tornado drill is scheduled for Wednesday at 10:15 a.m.
“Something different this year, the emergency alert system will be activated; they will have live codes this year. The FCC has not allowed those in years past,” said Kennon. “The big thing as far as that goes is it will set off the NOAA weather alert radios so that will maybe prompt more people to participate in the drill.”
If severe weather threatens on April 6th, the drill will be conducted on April 7th at the same time.
Kennon also said an advanced weather spotting webinar with the National Weather Service will be held on the 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the basement in the Cass County Courthouse.
