(Des Moines) Food detectives have found a possible explanation for hundreds of illnesses this spring. It's connected to a pre-packaged salad mix.
Sue Danielson of the Iowa Radio Network reports that investigators think they have traced a parasite tainted salad mix to a farm in Mexico that is owned by a California based produce supplier. The FDA will not say if this connection is directly linked to cyclospora that made nearly 400 people sick in 16 states, with many of them in Iowa. The FDA does say however they have found illness clusters in four restaurants traced to a common supplier of produce, Taylor Farms in Mexico. The investigation does not implicate salad mix sold in grocery stores.
