(Carroll) A Denison resident faces perjury charges after allegedly falsifying a voter registration application.
According to complaints released by Carroll County Attorney John Werden, it is alleged that Isabel Flores Lopez committed perjury on September 11, 2010 in Carroll.
Lopez allegedly was applying for a driver’s license. The 1993 Motor Vehicle Voter Act allows voters to register at such stations. According to one complaint Lopez used the name Yesnia Quiroz on the voter declaration stating the information was true and correct, when in fact she is a Mexican National not a U.S. citizen.
Lopez was arrested Wednesday and taken to the Carroll County Jail and held on $10,000 bond. She was released today after posting the $10,000 bail money.
Perjury is a felony in Iowa. The maximum punishment is a five-year prison term and a fine of $7,500.00.
