(State) Iowa Senator Tom Harkin says it has to be fixed. He's talking about a provision in the Health Care Reform Law that would require members of congress and many of their staff to purchase their health insurance on the new exchanges without federal help to pay the premiums.
"It was one of those things that Senator Grassley offered this amendment in the head of the debate on the health care bill and it just wasn't thoguht through. That's why you should just take your time sometimes for this kind of legislation."
Some are blaming the situation on an amendment sponsored by Iowa Senator Charles Grassley in 2010. Grassley says he's not to blame. He says the blame should fall on Majority Leader Harry Reid's office for not providing the language to allow the government to pick up some of the insurance costs.
