The top democrat in the State Senate says he will not run for Terrace Hill next year. Council Bluffs Democrat Michael Gronstal says he’ll concentrate on retaining his party’s majority in the State Senate instead.
“And in my absence I think that would be more difficult, I think my seat here in Council Bluffs trends Republican and so I worry about the majority in the Iowa Senate and I think it’s really important to maintain that and hopefully to get a Democratic House and a Democratic Governor,” said Gronstal.
Senator Gronstal says it was a difficult decision to make not to run because he claims Governor Terry Branstad is vulnerable next year. The Governor hasn’t officially announced whether he will run for re-election or not. Branstad does have campaign staff in place if he does decide to run again.
