(Westfair) - Crysta Brewer, a graduate from Lewis Central High School, beat out 13 other queens eager to earn the crown. Following Brewer in Fair Queen Royalty was Alyse Higgins with Miss Citizenship, Paige Volkens earning Miss Congeniality, Miss Leadership and second runner-up going to Heidi Darrington, and Andrea Reif earning first runner-up.
Crysta Brewer knew it was her that would be the next Westfair Queen when the announcer said, “A 13-year 4-H member.” Brewer has been an active member of the Lewis Hustling Pioneers for thirteen years and within those thirteen years, she has held four different offices; secretary, historian, vice president, and president. Crysta had also been a very active student within the Lewis Central Community School District by participating in show choir, chamber choir, cheerleading, and drama.
Out of the 350 attendees at the Westfair Crowning Ceremony, Taylor Staton, the 2012 Westfair Queen was present. Staton gave her farewell speech Wednesday night before she handed down the crown to Crysta.
As Staton described her experience as the 2012 Westfair Queen, she stated, “If someone had ever asked me to describe my reign as the 2012 Westfair queen, with no doubt, I would choose blessed. I can relate this word to almost every moment I think about when I reflect on my year of royalty.”
Crysta Brewer will compete for the title of the Iowa State Fair queen crown. The Iowa State Fair is set for August 8-18 in Des Moines. Crysta told the Daily Nonpareil that she felt honored to be able to represent Westfair in the Iowa State Fair Queen Competition.
