(Atlantic) – Massena City Councilman, Linda Reineke, spoke to the Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning about possible funding for the many projects taking place in the town of Massena. One of the bigger projects taking place in Massena now is the relining of the sewer. Reineke told the board this morning that an excess of $800,000 has been put on top of the original project cost and that the City will have an additional $530,000 to pay after using money from the CBBG Grant they had been rewarded.
"This sewer relining project was mandated because we had excess infiltration with our sewer system and our lagoons were being hammered when we were having heavy rains," states Reineke.
Some other projects that the City of Massena is hoping to finish within the next six years includes curb and gutter streets, update the lagoon systems, pay off some money to the ADA, and get younger families into the town.
Reineke says, "One of the things I am the most interested in is the new housing in town. As I metnioned before, the available residences in Massena has declined from 220 in 1990 to 190 now."
Reineke says there are other smaller projects that will need to be addressed later. The expansion of the firehouse being one of them.
