(Atlantic) The Cass County Fair doesn’t officially open until tomorrow, but today could be one of the biggest days of the fair. Its “preparation day” at the Cass County Fairgrounds beginning at 6:00 p.m. Cass County Program Coordinator Kate Olsen says Volunteers play a big role in every community endeavor.
“Oh absolutely, from the Fairboard to the grounds committee, all of our superintendents, 4-H and FFA members, parents, leaders, youth action committee, everyone works together to organize the fair,” stated Olsen.
And one event that wouldn’t happen if it weren’t for the volunteers is preparation day.
“That will be today at 6:00 p.m. at the fairgrounds,” said Olsen. “It takes very little time to go from a blank slate to a complete area that is ready for all of our exhibits to be housed and judged in a just a matter of hours… our volunteers are priceless.”
All volunteers are encouraged to bring hammers, wire cutters, pliers, screw drivers, rakes, scoops and other tools and report to the food stand before beginning on their assigned areas listed in the fair book.
Fairboard members include; President, Shane Smith, Vice-President, Mike Plagman, Treasurers, Derek Sanny and Mitch Kleen, Secretary, Kristi Cunningham, Dan Dorsey, Bill Hosfelt, Todd Martens, Duane Weirich, Mike Jacobsen, Paul Hocamp, Spencer Miller, Curtis Bierbaum, Liz Denney, and Drew Williams.
