(Nodaway) For 50+ years, Vince and Judy Else of Nodaway have given toys, books, and games to needy families throughout southwest Iowa at Christmas.
It all started when a boy in Vince's Sunday school class wasn't going to get a Christmas present. Vince found an old, toy tractor, repaired it, painted it, and that boy received it for Christmas.
But in December, 2012, the storage house, where the fixed and cleaned toys were shelved, burned to the ground. Luckily a lot of the toys were already at the display building and were saved, so 2012 Christmas went on as usual.
When news of the fire was published, many people and businesses stepped forward with help. Donations were sent, dinners were served, and many other fund-raising events helped get the Elses back on their feet and the Rebuild Share-A-Toy program was on its way.
Now the new building is up, however there are still some very necessary things to do to complete the building. The organization is again seeking the public’s help to be ready for the 2013 Holiday Season.
You can make a donation by sending it to Vince & Judy Else, 400 4th Ave Nodaway, Iowa 50857; or to the Advent Christian Church, 300 South 2nd Avenue, Villisca, Iowa 50864.
