(Des Moines) - According to the Des Moines Register, the Iowa Electrical Examining Board is expected to decide whether Iowa farm buildings must be inspected or not. The Board is said to have a decision on August 15th.
The Board was assigned, by a judge, to reconsider the rules adopted after electrical regulatory legislation was passed by the Legislature. The Legislature passed the electrical regulatory legislation in 2007. The judge that assigned the reconsideration of the rules thinks the board has gone too far with requiring these inspections.
Some farmers detest the inspections as a power grab by the board and other farmers support these inspections as they are needed for safety. According to the State’s records, there have been 15 deaths from electrocution since 1994.
