(Sidney) Two men were arrested in Fremont County for stealing copper wire from a nearby irrigation pivot.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s office says deputies were called to the railroad tracks near 225th and Dike Road near Sidney this morning to investigate a suspicious vehicle. When the arrived they determined the vehicle was used in connection with a copper wire theft from the irrigation pivot.
Shortly after that the Fremont County deputies arrested 41-year-old Phillip Smith, of Council Bluffs and 38-year-old Robert Greenwood, of Omaha, Nebraska. Both were charged with 2nd degree theft, 2nd degree criminal mischief, and trespassing on railroad property. Both men are currently being held with no bond at the Fremont County Jail.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol and the Sidney Police Department.
