(ATLANTIC) Gender balance on county and city boards and commissions took effect January 1, 2012. To facilitate gender balancing of Cass County’s boards and commissions, the Cass County Board of Supervisors is taking applications for positions that are currently open, or will be open within the next year.
Current positions open are two members for the Cass County Compensation Board. The Supervisors’ previous two appointees were males. Gender balancing would require the appointment of one male and one female to the now vacant positions. Anyone interested in serving in one of those positions (or any of the positions that are listed below) may get an application at the Cass County Auditor’s office. The Cass County Board of Supervisors is taking applications for various county board and commission appointments. The majority of the appointments are made at the organizational meeting held on the first working day of the calendar year: January 2 for 2014. Cass County appreciates diversity in these appointments and welcomes all applicants at least 18 years of age. Terms and dates of appointments vary. These are unpaid positions. A brief description follows:
County Compensation Board: (2 members appointed by Board of Supervisors -4 year terms begin July 1, 2013). Seven member board reviews the annual compensation of the auditor, treasurer, recorder, sheriff, county attorney, and supervisors and prepares a compensation schedule for the elective county officers for the succeeding fiscal year. (July 1, 2013- two to be appointed)
(Zoning) Board of Adjustment: Five member board to review county zoning ordinance and hear requests for variances or special exceptions to the ordinance. (January 2014- one to be appointed)
Planning & Zoning Commission: Five member commission to review and enforce county zoning ordinance and make recommendations on any proposed changes to same. (January 2014- one to be appointed)
Airport Zoning Board of Adjustment: Five member board (two appointed by Board of Supervisors, two appointed by City of Atlantic, and fifth by those four) to review airport zoning ordinance and hear requests for variances or special exceptions to the ordinance. (January 2014- none to be appointed)
Compensation Board for the Condemnation of Private Property: 28 member commission representing realtors, farmers, bankers, auctioneers and city property owners to be available to the chief judge of the judicial district to assess damages to property taken by eminent domain. (January 2014- twenty-eight or more to be appointed: at least seven for each of four categories- Owner-operators of agricultural property; City property owners; Knowledge of property values; and Licensed Real Estate Persons)
Board of Health: Five member board to provide guidance and oversee operations of county Public Health department. (January 2014- one to be appointed)
Veteran Affairs Commission: Three member commission to provide guidance and oversee operations of Veteran Affairs department. (beginning July 1, 2014- one to be appointed)
Conservation Board: Five member board to provide guidance and oversee operations of county Conservation department. (January 2014- one to be appointed).
Civil Service Commission: Three member commission to oversee examinations, promotions, and discipline issues relating to Deputy Sheriffs. Two members appointed by Board of Supervisors. (January 2014- one to be appointed)
Township Trustee/Clerk: Four member board (three trustees and one clerk) to oversee operations of a township. (Appointed in odd numbered years. Next appointment in January 2015- two trustees for each of the townships of Benton, Bear Grove, Brighton, Cass, Franklin, Grant, Grove, Lincoln, Massena, Noble, Pleasant, Pymosa, Victoria, and Washington) [Townships of Edna and Union will each elect two trustees and one clerk at the General Election to be held in 2014]
