(Little Sioux) - Authorities have identified the body found in the Little Sioux River on Sunday.
According to the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office, the body has been identified as 23-year-old Derick Vielguth of Galva, IA. Vielguth’s body was recovered approximately 30 yards from where he slipped and fell.
Major Greg Stallman of the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office told the Omaha World-Herald that Vielguth was fishing South of Oto, in Woodbury County, when he slipped on a rock and fell into the river sometime around 10:30 a.m.
Ben Stickney of Smithland jumped in to try and rescue Vielguth, but was unable to save his friend, reported Stallman. The two men floated about 30 or 40 yards downriver, Vielguth went under a couple of times, and one time he went under and didn’t come back up.
