(Red Oak) The Omaha World Herald is reporting this morning that State Senator Joni Ernst, of Red Oak has thrown her hat into the ring for the U.S. Senate Seat to replace Tom Harkin who is not seeking re-election.
According to the Omaha paper the forty-three year-old Republican entered the race Wednesday and plans to share her conservative views with Iowans across the state next week.
There are already five others in the Republican field including; former U.S. Attorney Matt Whitaker, Sioux City talk show host Sam Clovis, attorney Paul Lunde and David Young, a former aide to Iowa GOP Senator Chuck Grassley.
Ernst has served as a Montgomery County Auditor, a state senator, and a National Guard Officer.
She plans to officially declare her candidacy on Wednesday, July 17th.
