(Atlantic) Crews have been busy this week at the Meredith Communications Radio tower. Workers have been installing a brand new 20-kilowat solid state transmitter for radio station 96.5 F.M. KSOM.
Bill Saluk, Vice-President and General Manager of Meredith Communications says the new transmitter replaces the original transmitter that was installed when the station first went on the air in 1995.
“This unit uses the latest technology, there are no tubes anymore so it’s more reliable and it uses a lot of computer based technology as well,” stated Saluk. “This new unit also leaves the room cooler and actually uses less energy than the previous one that did the same thing and we will sound better than we ever have before.”
Bill Saluk says the old transmitter was still good, but he thought he would upgrade while the other unit still had a useful life. The new transmitter is expected to be up and running today.
