(Council Bluffs) A Council Bluffs teenager has died after the vehicle he was riding in was struck by a drunk driver.
The victim is 17-year-old Chrisshaun Moten who was a passenger in the back seat of a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Brenden Kniesly of Council Bluffs. Kniesly was westbound on Vets Highway. At the same time, a van driven by 31-year-old Hilberto Velasquez Ramirez, of Nashville, Tennessee, was heading eastbound in the westbound lane. According to the Council Bluffs Police Department Kniesly tried to swerve to avoid a head on collision, but the van struck the driver’s side of his vehicle where Moten was sitting. Moten was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Kniesly and passenger Philip Moffatt, age 17, are in serious condition while another passenger, 16-year-old Jessilyn Eisman was treated and released.
Ramirez is charged with homicide by Motor Vehicle, Two Counts of Serious Injury by Motor Vehicle, and Operating While Intoxicated. Ramirez had a blood alcohol level of .178%.
