(Audubon) The Audubon County Sheriff’s office and the city of Exira appear to be inching closer to a law enforcement sharing agreement.
According to Audubon County Board of Supervisors chairman Todd Nelsen the city of Exira presented a proposed contract to the board at Tuesday’s meeting. Nelsen says the board was not opposed to the contract but they were advised that a 28E agreement would be in their best interest.
Audubon County Sheriff Todd Johnson previously told KSOM/KS95 news that the sheriff’s office would need to expand their force in order to patrol Exira. The addition of another deputy is estimated at $86,000 with the bulk of the cost to be paid by the city of Exira.
The board of supervisors tentatively plans to review the 28E proposal on July 9th with the Exira city council expected to hold a special meeting the following week to act on the proposal.
