(Audubon) - On Tuesday, Iowa Governor Terry Branstad issued a disaster emergency proclamation for Audubon County due to recent storms in the month of June.
This proclamation actuates the Iowa Individual Assistance Program for Audubon County by providing grants up to $5,000 for households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Grants are available for various things such as home and car repairs, clothing and food replacement, and temporary housing. The application for the grant and instructions on how to fill it out are available under the “Disaster Assistance” link at the Iowa Department of Human Services website which is www.dhs.iowa.gov.
Audubon County and other areas throughout Western Iowa were hit by high winds and received heavy rainfall on June 24th. Several buildings on farms had been lost and some people even had trees fall on their homes. Within the City of Audubon, a grain dryer, owned by the West Central Cooperative, had toppled, rupturing a gas line. This event demanded an immediate evacuation and a close down of U.S. Highway 71.
