(ATLANTIC) The 4th of July is upon us and it’s that time of year to remind Iowans about the legal use of fireworks.
Paul Wood with the Atlantic Police Department says there are only a few legal fireworks in the state of Iowa.
“Basically in Iowa the only thing that is legal for fireworks is sparklers, snakes and snappers,” said Wood. “Anything else is illegal.”
And if you’re caught with any illegal fireworks, Wood said, “you can face up to a $250 fine through the courts.”
Not only do you have to worry about possibly facing a fine, you may also end up with an emergency room bill. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, 200 people on average go the emergency room every day with fireworks-related injuries in the month around the July 4th holiday.
