Des Moines is ranked number eight in a new survey of the top places to be “Young, Broke, and Single”. Moneyunder30.com publisher, David Weliver, says their criterion was designed to look at more than just the nation’s biggest cities.
“We wanted to find cities where there were stable economies, there was a large population of young people there already, and then there were some other kind quality of life factors; like the low cost of living.” Weliver also added, “Another thing we also looked at was low commute times.”
He says Des Moines scored high in all of those categories, beating out Minneapolis, Minnesota and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which both were below the Top Ten. Omaha, Nebraska was sixth in their survey.
One of their criteria was the number of bars per capita and Weliver says that Des Moines scored high on that as well.
