(RED OAK) One person suffered minor injuries in a two vehicle accident in Montgomery County this morning.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says the accident occurred at the intersection of 110th Street and Q Avenue at around 8:40 a.m. A 1975 GMC Straight Truck, driven by Merlin Rasmussen of Red Oak, was northbound on Q Avenue when he failed to stop at the stop sign at 110th Street. A 1988 International Flatbed truck, driven by James Swanson of Marne, was pulling a 2010 Titan flatbed trailer and was unable to get stopped before striking Rasmussen’s vehicle. Rasmussen’s vehicle spun around and came to rest in the northwest ditch. Swanson’s vehicle continued down the north shoulder when the goose neck of the trailer became detached and ended up in the north ditch. The vehicle stopped in the eastbound lane of traffic.
Swanson sustained a minor bump on the head, but didn’t seek any medical attention. Rasmussen was charged with Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign.
The damage to the 1975 GMC Straight Truck was estimated at $2,500. The damage to the 1988 International flatbed was estimated at $10,000. The 2010 Titan 5th Wheel Trailer sustained approximately $1,300 damage.
