(Anita) The Iowa State Patrol has released more information on the rollover accident that occurred this morning on Interstate 80 north of Anita.
Trooper Kyle Mass told KSOM/KS95 news that 19-year-old Rachel Annette Johnson of Omaha was seriously injured in the accident that happened between the 70 and 71 mile markers in the eastbound lanes at around 4:00 a.m. this morning. The girl was trapped in her vehicle for nearly two-and-a-half hours before a semi driver spotted the wrecked vehicle at around 6:36 a.m.
Mass says the 17-year-old left Omaha at around 2:00 a.m. and fell asleep behind the wheel. “She told us that the next thing she knew she was in the south ditch.”
Johnson was air-lifted from the scene to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.
