(Corning) Wanted: actors and actresses in Adams County!
A group of local volunteers is working to revive the community theater in Adams County and auditions for a modified reader’s theater production next month.
“We’re just thrilled,” said Beth Waddle, Director of the Play. “We just finished restoration of the 1902 Operation House and they’ve been doing great programming up there, but we used to have a pretty active community theatre over 20 years ago and so we’re just playing around, having some fun and seeing if we can get that re-energized.”
Waddle said she is looking for 14 male actors and 13 female actresses, and a few singers ranging from high school age all the way up to grandparents, to perform in “Maybe, Baby, It’s You,” that is set to hit the Corning Opera House Stage on July 19.
“It’s a comedy about the search for that most elusive of entities, the soul mate,” explained Waddle. “This play is told in a series of 11 little vignettes that start from a wish list of what our soul mate should have, all the way up through some of your teenage years when you’re fumbling around and trying to figure it out, to first love, blind dates and those first few years of marriage and even to the golden years and how you try and keep that love alive and maybe it works and maybe it doesn’t. So lots of little story lines that go throughout the night.”
The first audition is scheduled for this evening from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday, June 14, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Corning Opera House.
