(ATLANTIC) Several kids with the Nishna Valley Family YMCA TLC program helped plant flowers at the Heritage House in Atlantic this afternoon.
Chelsea Huddleson, TLC before and after school coordinator, said they received funds from the David Williams Cass County Master Gardeners Grant to do this project.
“We are being part of getting the younger kids involved with the older generation and getting involved in the community, practicing our four core values of caring, honesty, responsibility and respect,” said Huddleson. “Showing them how easy it is and how fun it is, obviously them playing in the dirt here and being able to plant the flowers and take care of this little area that we have. We’re going to plant some flowers and take care of this area throughout the summer.”
Jon Jordon, with the Heritage House, was thrilled to have the kids help out with the flower beds.
He said, “The residents are going to be very happy because this sometimes gets a little out of control because we don’t have enough staff to keep up with it, but now look at all the staff we have got here.”
The TLC kids also planted some flower pots at the YMCA today.
